Scanning Documents is a core requirement for every document management application. Typically two strategies are used to provide for inbound documents:

• Centralized Scanning - very applicable for scenarios like inbound vendor invoices
• De-centralized Scanning - very applicable, when inbound documents are confident or too complex of matter

Centralized scanning usually is more a matter of hardware and throughput, hoping that every document will find its owner, case worker or business process in the end. Solutions are usually costly and take their time to implement! They are a project in itself and software vendors like COFAX do implement this well.
